Some of our favourite things..

We never remember all our favourite places around Ealing and contractors we use, so this page is going to be our cheat-sheet so I can remember all the stores, restaurants, shops and other random things we like.

The Wheatsheaf Pub: 41 Haven Lane, W5 2HZ. This is one of our best local pubs in Ealing. They have a great Honey Dew beer.

Cafe Freddo – Haven Green: this (under new management) is a fantastic cafe with the best coffee (latte, etc) in Ealing. It’s located right by Ealing Broadway station, on Haven Green. Open from 7am through 7pm or so M-F; 8am-6pm on Sat, and 9am-5pm on Sundays. This is our favourite coffee and light meal / breakfast place in Ealing.

Joie de Vivre Mediterranean Cafe: 41 St. Mary’s Road, W5 5ES. Sun-Tues 11:00-18:00 and Wed-Sat 11:00-22:00. Reservations taken at 020 8932 5508. This restaurant has fantastic food, specials that change often, and a friendly atmosphere. It does not offer wine or beer, but you can bring your own wine for a small corkage fee.

Osteria del Portico: 7A (The Green) High Street, W5 5DA. This family-run Italian restaurant is reliably good, friendly service and very reasonably priced. They often run specials (such as £15 for starter, main, and a glass of wine). Bookings suggested for weekend nights at 0208 840 3297. The entrance is in a short alley next to Carluccio’s on the main road.

The Walpole: 35 St Mary’s Road, W5 5RG. 020 8567 7918. This is ONLY OPEN on Friday and Saturday nights as a full restaurant. The rest of the time it’s a regular cafe – but it’s the Friday and Saturday night experiences definitely to go there for. Reservations are highly recommended. The food is fresh; Wendy (the owner/chef’s wife) walks around and describes in detail the day’s dishes, and the all around experience is a big thumbs up.

Farm W5: Great organic local store and little cafe area with a fantastic brunch and lunch.

Ealing Squash and Fitness Club: A local gym that’s a lot smaller than Virgin Active and even comes with its own pub! It’s right near the Ealing Broadway station. They are open M-F 0630-2300; Sat 0900-2000; Sun 0900-2030.

CJ Hall Veterinary: A local vet who takes great care of Kitty and King Friday. They are located in Acton at 346 Acton Lane, W38NX. Phone is 0208 992 6000. They also offer boarding of animals and local minor operations.

Better Heating and Lighting Ltd / Electrician: Michael Gilbert, 0208 998 2838 normal hours, 07860 336 575 emergencies. He’s in Ealing and we have used him several times, quite pleased.

Heating / Boiler repair: Advanced Professional Plumbing and Heating Services. +44 208 596 5068. We used them once when our boiler started leaking.

MJ Kloss Painting and Decorating: General repair and remodel around the house. We used them for some cracks and interior painting. 0208 949 2553

RS Jones Roofing in Bagshot is a family-owned roofing company now in its third generation. We personally know the owner and would absolutely call him first for any type of roofing repair. He primarily serves Bagshot and Surrey area, although does stretch as far as London for certain jobs.

Plumber: we had some radiator problems and had to have some plumbing work done. C. Anderson & Sons was thorough, patient and reasonably priced. Their number is 0207 386 8888 and the website is linked to above. We had Graham as our plumber for whatever that’s worth..

Movie DVD Rentals: okay, not technically Ealing, but we enjoy LoveFilm a lot. It’s pretty inexpensive and they mail you the DVDs and you simply return each when you’re done – all with no postage to deal with. If you try LoveFilm DVD online rentals through the link I provided there, I think I might even get a discount on a month’s membership. Sign up!

Wines we want to remember (not “whines”, that’s a different list):
